This year schrit_tmacher welcomes three big names from Canada: Marie Chouinard, Louise Lecavalier and Crystal Pite. That’s reason enough to also invite Canadian Cathy Levy, who reports on the dance scene in Canada. The question is how these choreographers relate to the “new” generation of young Canadian artists and what position they occupy in the Canadian dance landscape, taking into account developments on the west and east coasts.

Cathy Levy has directed the dance department at the National Arts Center in Canada for twenty years; in this multidisciplinary production and presentation site, the choreographers of the next generation, but also the audience, play an important role. Levy has built an enviable reputation on the Canadian and international dance scene and is considered a key figure in the Canadian and international dance world. In 2019 she was made a member of the Order of Canada for her commitment to her field.

In diesem Jahr begrüßt schrit_tmacher drei große Namen aus Kanada: Marie Chouinard, Louise Lecavalier und Crystal Pite. Das ist Grund genug, auch die Kanadierin Cathy Levy einzuladen, die über die Tanzszene in Kanada berichtet. Die Frage lautet, wie sich diese Choreograf*innen zur „neuen“ Generation junger kanadischer Künstler*innen verhalten und welche Position sie in der kanadischen Tanzlandschaft unter Berücksichtigung der Entwicklungen an der West- und Ostküste einnehmen.

Cathy Levy leitet schon seit zwanzig Jahren die Tanzabteilung des National Arts Centre in Kanada; an dieser multidisziplinären Produktions- und Präsentationsstätte spielen die Choreograf:innen der nächsten Generation, aber auch das Publikum eine wichtige Rolle. Levy hat sich in der kanadischen und internationalen Tanzszene einen beneidenswerten Ruf erarbeitet und gilt als eine Schlüsselfigur in der kanadischen und internationalen Tanzwelt. 2019 wurde sie für ihr Engagement in ihrem Bereich zum Mitglied im Orden von Kanada ernannt.
