REQUIEM FOR A FOREST

„It is the language of bodies and the glances behind the masks of these beings—glances that can only be sensed—that Nathalie Larquet brings to life simultaneously across four video frames in her installation, and which nonetheless, or perhaps precisely because of this, move us deeply. The words from I am a moment (and so many others) often strike a direct chord with the haunting images or provide a striking contrast. This text, spoken and developed by Ophelia Young, underlies all these projections simultaneously. It is a fictional, four-part dialogue with imagined beings that lends the images of devastated forests an additional, profound psychological layer.

The exhibition space transforms into an immersive space of memory—a kind of echo chamber. A large-scale LED installation shows the dancers amidst the dying forest. These images contrast with the AHNUNGEN installation, which is also on view and spans different moments in time, beginning with a dance dialogue with a forest in full bloom and ending with contrasting footage of a ghostly landscape.

This work is not merely a lament for one particular forest. It is a reflection on the disappearance of landscapes—and on how bodies, art, and memory can preserve places that no longer exist. In a time of ecological crisis, Requiem for a Forest poses the question: How do we mourn what has been lost? And can dance—as an ephemeral form—become an archive of this loss?

Larquet’s interdisciplinary practice, situated at the intersection of dance, film, and spatial installation, invites the audience not only to understand but to feel—and perhaps to listen anew to what still remains.“ installtion’s preview
