Hier finden Sie Informationen über die Tanzschaffenden in ihrem Wirken als Teile der sogenannten „Freien Szene“  in Wuppertal. (Noch) Nicht aufgeführt sind die Tänzerinnen und Tänzer, Choreograf*innen, Dramaturg*innen und sonstigen Tanzbefassten, in ihrer unmittelbaren Eigenschaft als Mitglieder des Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. Manche der frei arbeitenden Tanzschaffenden, die hier vorgestellt werden, sind gleichwohl Mitglieder oder Gäste des weltberühmten Ensembles. Die Portraits werden nach und nach vervollständigt mit den Biografien der Künstler und Arbeitsproben in Bild und Videos, sowie Interviews mit ihnen.

Tsai-Wei Tien

Nachdem Tsai-Wei Tien zunächst eine Tanzausbildung an der Taipei National University of the Arts in Taiwan absolvierte, ging sie mit einem Stipendium des DAAD nach Deutschland und nahm ein Studium an der Folkwang Universität

… der Künste in Essen auf. Nach ihrem Abschluss im Jahr 2011 trat Tien dem Folkwang Tanzstudio bei und schaffte zudem eigene choreografische Arbeiten, welche mehrfach auf Tanzfestivals ausgezeichnet wurden. Tien kollaboriert in Projekten sowohl in NRW als auch im internationalen Raum, insbesondere im Austausch mit Kollaborateuren aus ihrem Heimatland Taiwan. Sie tanzte in Choreografien von Emanuel Gat, Johannes Wieland, David Hernandez, Malou Airaudo, Stephan Brinkmann, Rodolpho Leoni, Henrietta Horn und anderen. Seit August 2015 ist sie festes Ensemblemitglied des Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch.

Gala Moody

After graduation, Gala joined Leigh Warren and Dancers for four years, touring both nationally and internationally. Meanwhile, her own creations were at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, at the Melbourne National Theatre and the Playhouse in Canberra…

In 2009 Gala moved to Brussels to join Charleroi Danses -M. A. De Mey for the creation of ‘Neige’, also performing in ‘Sinfonia Eroica’ (in which she replaced De Mey), touring extensively.

For the next few years, Gala worked with directors including Romeo Castellucci, Louise Chardon/andwhatbeside(s)death – Antwerp, Cie.TPO- Prato, Anuschka Van Oppen/Cie.SOIT – Brussels, Gabrielle Nankivelle – Adelaide, during this time Gala created the solo ‘A Body’ for Ivo Dimchevs Volksroom.

In 2014, Gala worked with Wim Vandekeybus in the creation of ‘Talk to the Demon’. At Ultima Vez she also performed in ‘Spiritual Unity’ and ‘Booty Looting’; replacing actress Birgit Walter as Medea. Gala has worked with Notch Company, with whom she started a solo titled “ Arcane Majeur – How to Make Decisions”, with director Oriane Varak.

In 2016, Gala joined Pieter Ampe to work on his first group performance, ‘It’s in the Small Things’. That year Gala was artist-in-residence at the WAM! Festival in Faenza, where she filmed and studied the daily movements of Faenza residents on the street, creating an anthropological performance, ‘Re-Gesture Study’.

This year Gala has worked as a dancer for various fashion brands, such as Hermès, Le Bon Marché, Issey Miyake, Youjia Jin, and A PART Magazine, appearing in fashion shows in London, Paris and Shanghai. She also performed in the movie “Suspiria” by Luca Guadagnino.

Since 1989 and till September 2002
worked together with the musician Peter Kowald. This collaboration will the beginning of his work in improvisation and structured improvisation dance. Different little dance pieces have been created out of those collaborations (Stock, Security, Diva, Jeune Fille, Money, „let the trouble come when the trouble comes“, „electroshock“, „la vecchia“ and „Ur“). This Duos work have been and still are presented through many countries around the world under the title „Short pieces“.

In 1998
works with the students of the Folkwanghochschule in Essen on a choreographic project. The dancetheatre piece „Wumm Wumm, immer…“ will be the result of this project.

In 1999
works with the students of the Arnhem Dance Academie and EDDC in Holland on a choreographic project. The dancetheatre piece „Meeting with an angel“ will be the result of this project. Since then and till now, he will teach in the Academy as guest teacher.

In 2000
starts to work in collaboration with the musician Hans Reichel (e-guitar, daxophon).

In 2001
start his collaboration work with the Theater director Burkhard C. Kosminski and the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus (Germany) as:

The collaboration works in the psychiatry, started in 2014. This new field keeps on its development:
– In collaboration with the director and the medical team of the « Clinique de Saumery » in Blois – France, I started to develop an experimental department for Dance-theatre for mentally diminished patient (October 2014). This project is a long term project with the goal to create a dance department including all allocations for teaching, rehearsals and performance.
– In collaboration with the Center for Autistism of Wuppertal, I started a work with patient. This work is based as first step in the observation of the movements that this kind of patient are doing with the idea to give them the possibility to develop another language of expression and of communication.

2016,

Rodolpho Leoni wurde 1963 in Campo Grande (Brasilien) geboren, begann dort 1978 sein Tanzstudium und gründete 1981 gemeinsam mit elf weiteren Tänzern die erste Kompanie für modernen Tanz in dieser Region…
… 1983 ging er nach Sao Paulo, um die Graham-Technik zu studieren, und tanzte in den folgenden zwei Jahren im Teatro Brasileiro de Danca. Danach setzte er seine Studien an der Martha Graham School for Contemporary Dance in New York fort.
Seit 1988 lebt und arbeitet Rodolpho Leoni in Deutschland. Er choreographiert seit 1992 eigene Stücke und gründete 1996 mit der Produktion „Foggy” die Kompanie rodolpho leoni dance.Seine Choreographie „Speak” wurde mit dem Deutschen Produzentenpreis für Choreographie (DPC) 2005/06 ausgezeichnet. Er choreographierte zahlreiche Tanzstücke für verschiedene Tanzkompanien, u.a. für das Ballett Nürnberg, die Tanzkompanie St. Gallen (Schweiz), das Tanztheater Bremen und das Folkwang Tanzstudio.Im Dezember 2006 wurde Rodolpho Leoni als Professor für Modernen Tanz/Tanzchoreographie an die Folkwang Hochschule in Essen berufen. Seit Oktober 2008 ist er künstlerischer Leiter des Folkwang Tanzstudios, gemeinsam mit Pina Bausch bis zu ihrem Tod im Juni 2009.

Drei prägende Jahre, aber der eigene Schaffensdrang ist stärker. Ab1988 ist er als freischaffender Tänzer und Choreograph tätig, 1998 gründet er die Mark Sieczkarek Company, für die er solo und mit wechselnden Ensembles arbeitet – national und international erfolgreich.Mit mehr als 40 Choreographien in 25 Jahren sowie etlichen tänzerischen Projekten in Afrika, Südamerika und Europa zählt Sieczkarek zu den produktivsten und bemerkenswertesten Tanz-Künstlern seiner Generation.Im Jahr 2017 schuf er das Stück „The tired queens garden“ für das Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, das während Underground V an der Reidel Fabrik in Wuppertal vorgestellt wurde.Er ist Träger des Förderpreises des Landes Nordrhein Westfalen (1996) und des Wolfgang-Max-Faust-Preises (1999).

Möllmer tanzte unter anderem in Choreografien von Emanuel Gat, David Hernandez, Reinhild Hoffmann, Pina Bausch, Rodolpho Leoni, Stephan Brinkmann, Rainer Behr, Mark Sieczkarek und anderen. Im November 2015 wurde er mit dem Förderpreis des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen in der Sparte Tanz/Theater ausgezeichnet. Er realisiert und arbeitet in verschiedensten Projekten und Kooperationen mit KünstlerInnen in NRW und im Ausland. Das Tanzen und Choreografieren ermöglichte ihm die Besuche einer Vielzahl von Ländern verteilt über Europa, Nordamerika, Neuseeland, Afrika und Asien.

In 2007 he moved to Spain where he joined first the Ballet Victor Ullate and then Compañía Nacional de Danza under director Nacho Duato, where he worked for several years, in which time he also created works in the companies choreographic seasons.

In 2012/13, Michael moved into the creation of theatre works, forming the company Cía. del Señor Smith, a conglomerate of actors, directors and artists. He also produced NOW! A series of one off improvised performances in site-specific locations. Michael has made 16 short dance films, and a series for youtube called Inside the Compañía Nacional de Danza.

He performed in feature films; The Book of Revelations directed by Anna Kokkinos, in Homing directed by Xabier Iriondo and Brittle Failure by Lesley Telford. Michael is also a teacher and rehearsal director and has taught several workshops on dance for camera.

In 2014, Michael accepted a position as guest artist with the company Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, afterwards joining the company full time in 2015 and where he continues to work to the present day.

Ein Archiv als Zukunftswerkstatt” mitverantwortlich. In 2014 gründete er das Internationale Forschungszentrum für zeitgenössische Künste Ekeby in den Niederlanden. Seit 1998 lebe ich in Deutschland, seit 2007 in Wuppertal. Ich bin Choreograph, Maler, Tänzer, Tanz- und Kunstpädagoge. In einem Künstlerteam leite ich hier die Wuppertaler Werkstatt (Schule für Tanz und Musik). Das Kunstatelier OLGA – Raum für Kunst habe ich 2008 gegründet. Hier werden Ausstellungen gezeigt, ereignen sich Veranstaltungen, wie die Vollmond-Nacht, in der Künstler ihre eigensinnigen Ideen und Fähigkeiten einbringen.
